Harry Potter fans have been speculating about what a new stage story about the wizarding world might be about, and now they have some answers: the new play from J.K. Rowling will feature an adult Harry Potter and his son, Albus Severus Potter.

The plot will pick up where the books left off, 19 years after the battle with Voldemort—Rowling describes Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as “the eighth story in the series” on her Facebook page. According to a description on the show’s website, the plot will depict Harry as “an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.”

“While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs,” the description continues, “his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”

The play will run in two parts, which theatergoers can see on the same or separate days. The show opens at the Palace Theatre in London on July 30, and tickets will go on sale Wednesday. Accio seats!

20th Century Fox has set a Summer 2017 release date for Kingsman 2

Earlier this year, Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of the Mark Millar/Dave Gibbons graphic novel Kingsman: The Secret Service became a surprise hit for 20th Century Fox, grossing $128 million domestically and another $285 million overseas. It also kicked off what would be a year filled with spy thrillers and comedies.

It wasn’t long before a sequel was confirmed with Vaughn thinking of directing it himself, and now we’ve learned that 20th Century Fox isn’t going to wait that long to release a sequel, setting a June 16, 2017 release date for the spy action-comedy that will presumably bring back Taron Egerton’s now fully-trained secret agent.

While there’s no word who else might return from the first movie–if you’ve seen it then you know why it will be hard to bring many characters back, kind of like with another Millar-adapted movie Wanted–it would be the second movie based on one of Millar’s works to get a sequel after Kick-Ass 2, which Vaughn did not return to direct. So far, there hasn’t been any word whether Milllar and Gibbons might continue their story into another “The Secret Service” graphic novel (as Millar did with Kick-Ass) although Vaughn’s movie already diverged away from the comic, so it could theoretically continue on its own trajectory.

So far, the only other movie that has scheduled itself on that June 16, 2017 date is Disney•Pixar’s Cars 3, which shouldn’t have too much cross-over audience with the R-rated action-comedy.

Stay tuned to SuperHeroHype for all the latest updates on Kingsman 2!

''The Force... it's calling to you...''

Bucking (for the most part at least) the current trend for the big releases swamping us with TV spots, teasers-for-teasers-for-trailers, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has largely relied on a restrained series of promotional events and a couple of main trailers. Now here comes the third full batch of footage, and if the trend keeps up, this could be the final trailer. You’ve waited this long, so enjoy...

Yes, as foretold by Sunday’s poster – which is still generating plenty of comment for its specific lack of one Luke Skywalker – the new promo arrives with plenty of new footage.

Though this is partly the trailer intended for more general audiences (originally broadcast during Monday Night Football across the pond), there’s plenty for dedicated Wars fans to enjoy, and still doesn't exactly spell out the plot. Anchored by the idea that the adventures of Luke, Leia, Han and the rest are now treated almost more as stories than reality (it is a big galaxy far, far away, after all), the past comes rushing back with a vengeance thanks to the machinations of Imperial followers (fanatics?) The First Order. “I will finish,” says Kylo Ren menacingly while staring at Darth Vader’s twisted, scorched helmet, “What you started...” Cue lots of shots of X-Wings, TIE Fighters, storm troopers and more, all that you could wish for from Star Wars.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which features the new franchise faces Ridley, John Boyega, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Gwendoline Christie and Adam Driver joining the veteran likes of Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew and Anthony Daniels, will arrive in the UK on December 17, ahead of its December 18 launch in the US. For everything we know about the film so far, point your targeting computer this a-way.

It's a trap

Hype is what gives a movie its power. It is an energy created by all beloved franchises. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds our galaxy together. But beware the dark side of hype.

Yes, I was like you, once; fresh-faced, hopeful. Back in 1999. Before the birth of social media. Before viral videos and transmedia marketing. Before ... the dark times ...

I have lived this day. I have walked in the warm glow of a great trailer. I have seen the desert sands spread out before me, looked deeply into a distant starfield and seen only rebirth and renewal.

And I have seen it all slip through my fingers.

Many of you were there, too. Have you simply forgotten?

You must remember seeing that first one-sheet poster, long ago, of young Anakin and his ominous shadow. You must remember learning about Padme, Senator Palpatine and the Gungans for the first time.

Have you forgotten what we went through that following May, on release day? Have you forgotten the wooden performances? The hackneyed plot? The strangely racist aliens and, years later, those poor, dead Jedi children?

Have you simply forgotten Jar Jar?

Don't you remember leaving the theater that day, poisoned by nostalgia and pledging to anyone who would listen how you planned to go back for another dose as soon as you could? How we deluded ourselves, in the months and the years after The Phantom Menacecame out that it was the second coming of the franchise? How it was just as good as — maybe better than! — those other three movies made a long time ago, in a memory far far away?

Calm yourself. Let the hype flow over you, not through you, and see these past 24 hours for what they truly are.

Last night, during the weekly ritual that is Monday Night Football — when millions of football fans the world over were at their weakest and most inebriated — one of the world's most powerful media companies released upon a largely unsuspecting population a potent two-minute video designed to evoke nostalgia and good vibes.

It's a trap.

It's nothing more than hype, and it can only be described as one of the most sophisticated and calculated efforts in media history.

Why are we falling for this again?

Hype is the dark side. It seduces us. It whips us into a frenzy, while luring us into complacency. It makes us feel things we don't want to feel, and it blinds us of the truth.

The truth is we know nothing about how The Force Awakens is going to look on the screen. We know nothing other than what the Empire of Disney elects to tell us, nothing more than what we can piece together from an 18-hour marathon of product marketing.

It's not that I know the film will be bad, it's that I don't know that it will be any good.

No matter how hard we squint, we will not see The Force Awaken's potential failure coming until it is too late. And the stakes are much higher this time, for good or ill, because the original cast is involved.

Thankfully, there is another, but mark my words ...

It's not that I know the film will be bad, it's that I don't know that it will be any good.

The trailer for The Phantom Menace ranks among the best in a long line of great Star Wars trailers, but it's also a master class in marketing. Could it be the film industry has gotten even better at making trailers since then?

I hope that the new team behind the franchise is better than the last, but I won't get suckered again this time. At the end of the day, the only thing I wish for more than the strength to admit The Force Awakens is a failure is that I never have to.

CRuvukyWIAAmKRT

We all know you’ve been holding your breath in excitement for the full-length trailer of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’

Well, time to make some heavy inhalation noises because it’s finally here.

It has (mostly) everything.

Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey, walking across sand dunes with her buddy, BB-8.

Plenty of Storm Troopers.

The creepy Kylo Ren.

And his even creepier Darth Vader helmet shrine.

Of course, we can’t forget about Han Solo

Check out the trailer below and make all the excited noises.

Ticket presales for the movie crashed Fandango’s website, according to Deadline Hollywood. The lucky few who managed to get them before the Internet caved in will be able to see the movie as early as December 17.
