The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, on Tuesday said former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s party membership card which was torn on his instruction was an expired one.

He made this known in Abuja while receiving some student union leaders under the aegis of Student Mobilisation Network Group (SMNG).

Oladipo explained that the torn card was the one issued by the party’s former acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Barage, and ‎not the one issued by its current leadership.

Obasanjo had while hosting the executive members of PDP in his ward in his Abeokuta home, ordered the Chairman of the party in the ward, Alhaji Usman Oladunjoye, to tear the card.

Reacting, the PDP scribe said: “Baba is 80 and my mother is around Obasanjo’s age and when you reach that age, you do things that only you can explain.

“Secondly, you will see that Baba did not tear our card.

“He asked somebody to do the tearing and I am assuring you that the card that was torn was not the current PDP card.

“The current PDP card is signed by Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu and Prof. Wale Oladipo; so, the card he tore was a Baraje card, which we are going to destroy after all.”

On the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Oladipo said that Buhari was not qualified to be president of the country.

He said that while President Goodluck Jonathan had insisted on crushing act of insurgents in the country, the APC presidential candidate said he would bring Boko Haram under control.

Earlier, the leader the students group, Mr Tekun Olanrewuju, said they were at PDP’s secretariat to pledge allegiance to its leadership and to give their support to Jonathan’s re-election bid.

He added that the students were supporting the PDP because they realised that the political future of Nigerian youths lay in the party.

Olanrewuju, who is the National Coordinator of the group, stressed that the achievement of Jonathan in all sectors of the nation`s economy qualified him for a second term.

He called on the PDP leadership to utilise the 5,000 students in University of Abuja, who had collected their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to its advantage.

All he wants for his birthday is to be the new mayor

Fresh off his televised and wildly popular marijuana debate with Nancy Grace (see below), rapper 2 Chainz has stepped up his political ambitions from rhetorical to actionable and revealed that he plans to run for mayor of his hometown, College Park, Georgia.

Mr Chainz, real name Tauheed Epps, said he plans to review his qualifications for the top municipal job and will run if he meets them, according to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. College Park is about 8 miles from Atlanta.

“I’m supposed to be running for mayor in College Park. I got everybody wishing,” Mr Epps told hip-hop magazine XXL. “I’m really gonna do this little mayor thing in College Park. I’m just trying to make sure I have the right qualifications.”

To qualify for the mayoral post, Mr Epps is required to be a resident of the city for at least one year, be registered to vote within the city and not have been convicted of crimes involving voter fraud or corruption, according to the College Park website.

The 37-year-old rapper does have felony charges on his rap sheet, but for narcotics, not corruption. It’s unclear if he meets the other requirements. College Park’s mayoral election will be help on 3 November.

If Mr Epps is qualified and runs, he likely will be running against Jack Longino, who has been College Park’s mayor for two decades. When trying to convince voters he should be the next mayor, the rapper, who also once went by the moniker Tity Boi, has a campaign-ready anthem: his song “I’m Different”.

Lagos state PDP gubernatorial candidate Jimi Agbaje, has promised to pull down the Lekki/Epe toll gates, if elected next governor of the state. He said this at a peaceful protest, tagged March for freedom, organised by Freedom Group in Lekki

"I am here to show solidarity with you on the issue of the toll plaza for which you are marching today and assure you that when we get into office, these toll gates will come down; I will demolish all of them. The public/private partnership, PPP, arrangement behind this project is not transparent.
Look at the BRT and Lagos light rail projects, they are collapsing because the PPP arrangements they have on ground are not sustainable. The light rail which was supposed to have been ready since 2012, is grounded and this is because of vested interests of a few people. The PPP arrangements are skewed to favour only a few people, so for me, I am in solidarity with you and a vote for us is a vote for freedom, a vote to bring down the toll plazas.” Mr Agbaje said (source -Vanguard)

His words: “We think that a prominent son of Ndokwa League should be called upon to address the challenges facing our state today and unleash its huge potentials for the benefits of Deltans today and those yet unborn.
