The first trailer for the highly anticipated film Into the Woods, starring Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and Anna Kendrick, is here. The film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's beloved 1987 Broadway musical will hit theaters this Christmas, and the trailer is fans' first chance to judge (and judge they will) the A-list cast.
The footage shows many of the characters -- Cinderella, Rapunzel, the Evil Witch, and more -- each stating "I Wish." "I Wish" is an oft-repeated lyric from the musical, and in this clip it doesn't appear that the characters are, you know, actually singing it. The actors are certainly up to the challenge: Anna Kendrick sang in Pitch Perfect, Streep performed in Mamma Mia!, and Depp stalked and sneered his way through Sweeney Todd.
Musical fans will instantly recognize the powerful orchestrations that accompany the footage. A peek at the face of Johnny Depp's Wolf -- or his sexual "Hello, Little Girl" song -- is clearly a treat Disney is saving for another day.
